Let’s get
physical
Getting into the fitness
groove for 2008?
Fashionable feet
Replace trainers every three to six months - the cushioning gets compacted with use and stops being effective.
Scour the sales. You can often pick up an Olympic athlete-worthy pair for less than half the price.
Never machine wash your trainers. Minimise odour by only wearing for training and air straight after. Keep clean with a damp cloth.
Yoga queens
Are Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow
Your fitness inspiration?
If you're into perfecting your Pilates or yoga positions, choose cotton clothing
with some stretch to allow for movement.
Yoga and Pilates gear can be super-flattering as well as fashionable. Look for fitted trousers with a slightly flared leg and drawstring waist. Cropped trousers are also ideal, so that you can check on your leg lines. Steer clear of tops with straps that may slip and distract you from those Downward Dog moves.
Running
If you're a fan of the great outdoors, hit the road and get jogging to reach peak fitness.
Buying a lightweight jacket is essential for the colder months.
"If moisture dries on your skin when you're out in the cold, it's a fast-track to flu," warns Jane.
In the summer months, stick to
hi-tech fabrics that absorb sweat while you're sprinting away.
Gym bunnies
Forget those celebrity fitness DVDs. Who's going to check out your new sportswear in your living room?
Get out of the house and strut
your stuff in the gym; other people working up a sweat should motivate you to do the same.
Nike Elite trainer Jane Wake says: "The less you wear, the cooler you'll be when exercising. You'll sweat
more when you're on a stationary machine than if you're outside."
