March
Garden
March is a time of rebirth within the garden, winter is drawing to a close and spring is well and truly here, birds can be seen gathering twigs and rushing from bird table to lawn in search of tasty grubs for their young.
This is the time that lawns will need to be spiked to improve drainage and prevent soggy patches, cut the grass on a low height to expose the moss and help to encourage worms to your lawn.
Sprinkle Rose fertilizer and gently fork it in to give them the boost they need. Divide up any overcrowded border perennials, trim back forsythia bushes once their flowers have faded and prune those Buddleja davidii back to a compact shape.
Once your bulbs have flowered and begin to decline, remove their flowers and sprinkle a general fertilizer to give them food for next season, but be careful to not remove the foliage as this is not quite dead.
It’s always a great sight to see the spring sunshine exciting the colours of your garden, whether its a clump of daffodils in the morning sun or a mixed spring border contrasting shapes and colours, all can give you joy as summer is not far away.
