MORE SCHOOLS TAKE PART IN PEACE POSTER COMPETITION
This year there was an increase in the number of schools taking part in the Lions International Peace Poster Competition. Organiser, Brian Phillips of Alton Lions said that the Club and the judges were very pleased with the increased level of interest.
The judges wished to say, “Well done to all the children for their entries.” They believed that the theme, ‘The Power of Peace’, had not been an easy one to interpret but all the children had tried really hard, often with the use of many peace symbols. They hoped that the children had enjoyed creating the posters as much as they had enjoyed judging them.
The judges, Alan Thomas, Head of Arts Faculty, Alton College and Pam Jones, former Children’s Exhibition organiser for Alton Art Society were looking for the expression of the theme ‘The Power of Peace’, originality and artistic merit and skill.
The winners, with judges’ comments were;
11 – 13 Age Group, Judge Alan Thomas.
1st - Heather Evans.
I was impressed by your colour mixing skills and the inventive use of colour throughout the poster. I particularly liked the way you used a multi-ethinic focus along with other original ideas.
2nd – Hannah Andrews.
In using pencil and pencil crayon you were able to fully demonstrate your good drawing skills. Combining the sun and CND symbol was particularly effective.
3rd – Charleen Gunning.
You made good use of space and showed an inventive use of colour and imagery. I particularly liked the way you had used the symbol of the peace doves.
9 – 10 Age Group, Pam Jones.
Karly Martin. You used really bold and powerful imagery which is particularly evident in the figure holding up the world.
7 -8 Age Group, Pam Jones.
You made a good effort to express the theme. I especially liked the way you had framed the earth in a protective rainbow.
Both judges said that thanks must go to all the staff who had organised and supported the children in their efforts
On behalf of Alton Lions, organiser thanked the judges, the children and the staff who had supported them. He said that all the entries would be on display at the Assembly Rooms on Saturday 5 September from 0900 1600 and hoped that many people would come along to see the childrens’ efforts.
