Talking Tots – an introduction
Communication is one of the most complex and important skills we ever learn, but is often taken for granted. Children who can communicate with confidence are able to listen, socialise and express themselves better than those who can’t. They are also more likely to do well at school and enjoy good relationships.
Current research has shown that there has been a marked decline in the basic language skills in the pre school population.
“We know that children who have not developed effective speaking and listening skills by the time they start school, will be at a disadvantage in all subjects across the curriculum” Director of The Basic Skills Agency.
Talking Tots offer fun interactive classes to help children become confident communicators, by developing:
social confidence, listening and attention skills, sharing and turn taking skills, expressive language, word meaning and vocabulary, narrative ability (story telling), phonological awareness (essential for reading and writing)
Speech Sprites … laying the foundations
This class looks at fundamental skills such as social confidence, sharing & turn taking and listening & attention skills. There's lots of fun & action packed structured games, with exciting props, singing and rhymes.
Speech Sprinters … the adventure continues
This class continues to focus on important skills such as social confidence, sharing & turn taking and listening & attention skills. It also introduces activities to develop word meaning and narrative ability (story telling). Still lots of fun, with action packed structured games, exciting props, singing and rhymes.
Speech Sparklers … getting ready for school
This class is also action packed and lots of fun. The main focus in this pre school year is on pre literacy skills … good phonological awareness skills, such as rhyming, are essential for reading & writing. The children learn through fun games and exclusive Talking Tots’ activities.
