Alton Beer Festival
Alton Summer Beer Festival 2007 on 2nd June at the Alton Maltings Centre was a complete sell-out, with over 1000 people attending and who were able to sample local beers, wines and ciders. In fact over 4000 pints were drunk. The winning beer of the festival was Triple fff’s Moondance which also won the winter festival in February. The festival was opened by Alton Town Mayor Robyn Fitzer.
The festivalgoers not only enjoyed a great range of beer but glorious sunshine on the courtyard of the wonderful Maltings building. It was indeed popular and extremely crowded at lunchtime. During the evening the people were drawn inside not only for the beer but the great live music by Mark Hoares Boogie Woogie band.
The festival was a total success raising over £5,000 for local charities, which will be announced at a later date. A mystery beer donated by the Three Horseshoes at East Worldom had the drinker’s guessing, the beer was from Thwaites Brewery, called Lancaster Bomber, and if you want to sample more it will be at the Three Horseshoes later this week.
At the winter festival we did a survey asking people if they were willing to help us go green and reduce our carbon footprint by re-using old Alton beer festival glasses. Nearly half brought back their old glasses and received their free glass of beer, resulting in a tremendous success.
The winning beers to receive the “Slaphead Trophy” were first Triple fff’s Moondance, second Stonehenge Brewery Danish Dynamite and third Bowman’s Brewery with their beer called “Swift One”, Also very popular was Mr Whiteheads “Strawberry Cider”, and for those driving, Free Apple juice was consumed, a total of 10 Gallons disappeared, which was kindly donated by Mr Whitehead.
