WHAT IT’S LIKE TO WORK FOR… THE ROYAL BANK OF SCOTLAND GROUP
STORY OF RBS
The Royal Bank of Scotland Group is now one of the largest financial institutions in the world, including such well-known UK brands as Direct Line, NatWest, Mint and The One Account. We have over 140,000 employees serving 35 million customers across 30 countries. It’s a position that we’ve reached by consistently meeting our customers’ needs, introducing innovative services and seizing each and every opportunity to grow our business. What really makes us such a big success is our people.
OUR CULTURE
Although fulfilling customer requirement and demand is always the most key aspect of our business, we work in a friendly and fun environment. We are passionate about many things but most importantly Customer Service, Continuous Improvement and Staff Development.
Here at Alton, we like to reward success by sharing achievements on our Wall of Fame. We also have a monthly £50 voucher draw for all our car sharers, and not forgetting regular team nights out and a quarterly department social event. Every Friday is dress down day, and the last Friday of the month, we have a charity dress down day.
We are committed to doing our bit for the Community by supporting local charities and voluntary groups.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN ALTON
Imagine a working environment where your voice is heard, your opinions matter and you’re seen as an individual, not a number.
Somewhere you’re given all of the support you need to be your best and can decide just how you want to be rewarded. Well stop imagining and take a look at the opportunities that RBS can offer.
We’ve got some of the best career opportunities around and we work especially hard to develop our people. So you’ll find a genuine career path with real opportunities.
Sam Wallace is a Sales Consultant based in Alton. Here’s what he has to say:
“I joined in September 2005, as I was looking for a career change and already knew people that worked for the business.
Since I’ve started here, I have worked my way up to be a senior member of the team. My core responsibilities include selling insurance policies, dealing with customer queries, training consultants and coaching colleagues if development areas are identified.
I have been given many opportunities to develop my skills and knowledge at RBS. I have been on training courses including developing feedback skills, top sales and driving your development. I am currently working towards an eNVQ in Customer Service Level 3 and have recently been on an accredited interviewing course.
I enjoy dealing with customers and developing people on a daily basis. There is a structured development framework called the Matrix which encourages you to progress within the company and each time you step up to a new level you receive a pay increase. Commission and the annual bonus are also nice incentives!
RBS are very good at recognising and rewarding hard work. A day won’t go by without you seeing an email from management praising the work of an individual.
I had been working for the company for just over a year when I was asked to help with the transfer of one of our sales schemes to our offices in Galway. I went to Ireland and delivered training to consultants over a two week period and received very positive feedback from all involved. A few months after the transfer was complete I was presented a Gold Aim Higher
Recognition award along with £100 worth of vouchers in recognition of the work I had put in.
Although I have only been with the company for just over two years I have been very happy with the way they’ve treated me. There are always opportunities to develop yourself further and gain new skills.
The social side of working for RBS is also great as team nights out are a regular occurrence. I can see myself working within RBS for many more years.”
