BROADCASTER MICHAEL WOOD TO DELIVER ANNUAL MIDSUMMER LECTURE IN THE MARQUEE AT GILBERT WHITE’S HOUSE

Supporters of Gilbert White’s House & Gardens have a midsummer treat in store this year.  Writer, historian and broadcaster Michael Wood has agreed to deliver their annual fundraising lecture in the marquee on Monday 21st June at 7.30pm.

Michael Wood is known internationally as the maker of nearly one hundred documentary films on historical subjects, the most recent being ‘The Story of India’ and ‘Alexander’s Greatest Battle’.   The Trust was privileged to work with him a few years ago when he made an enlightening film about Gilbert White entitled ‘Gilbert White: Nature Man’ examining the life, work and legacy of Selborne’s 18th century cleric and pioneering observer of nature.

On this occasion Michael will speak about ‘English Story’, his current project for the BBC which explores the history of England from the grassroots perspective of the ordinary people, and in particular the inhabitants across time of the old parish of Kibworth in the hundred of Gartree, in Leicestershire.

Tickets must be pre-booked, at a cost of £15 each to include wine and canapés, and can be purchased by telephoning Gilbert White’s House & Garden and The Oates Collection at Selborne on 01420 511275.
